Exclusive: Fwooper’s Take Over Staff Room!

IS YOUR STASH SAFE?!

The Blog Squad bring you this exclusive story!

At approximately 10:57pm last night the entire House Cup Staff were held hostage by a group of rogue Fwoopers!

Our sources reveal that the Fwoopers had made ransom demands involving large amounts of acrylic yarn, 2 barrels of apple cider and a half dozen broken knitting needles!

At this time it is uncertain whether their demands were met, although we can reveal that our Headmistress was seen to be negotiating with the Head Fwooper, known only as ‘Code Name: Cable’.

Several members of staff are said to have been forced to stash raid to meet the Fwoopers demands.

One member of staff gave this account of the events which took place;

“I didn’t really realise that something was happening until I came back from my House Common room to find a trail of Fwooper …droppings leading up to the hidden Staff Room door.

Upon entering, I discovered many of the members of staff searching frantically through their stashes, and urgent messages were been sent to both the Ravenclaw Lab taps and the Slytherin Bar to gather as much apple cider as was possible.

There were these strange creatures everywhere….I could see one of them was talking directly to NNS and so, making sure I was not seen, I snuck back out of the room, I only just made it back here with my yarn stash intact!!”

Students of Hogwarts are asked to express extreme caution if they spot any Fwooper related objects around the castle, as these birds are believed to be armed with acrylic yarn and therefore extremely dangerous.

An example of Fwooper droppings! Please note their extreme likeness to the common household button, proceed with extra caution!

Although it is unconfirmed at the moment, experts suggest that by creating a likeness of the creatures droppings and scattering it around any personal items, the Fwooper may be deterred from entering the area, as in Fwooper politics, this is considered an act of extreme oddness.

Students are (unofficially) advised to attempt to create Fwopper Poop look-alikes!

We have it on good authority from Staff Member GazeboGal (who is rumoured to have dealt with Fwoopers before) that these 'look-a-like' Fwooper Poops, are likely to deter the birds from peoples stash!

Example of 'look-a-like' Fwooper Poop!

Remember!

If you are approached by a Fwooper, your best chance of escaping with all your yarn stash is to follow Ministry advice.

If a Fwooper you should spy,
Try not to look them in the eye,
Instead begin to sing a tune,
Then they will surely leave the room!

CONSTANT VIGILANCE!

Happy April Fools!

Granny Squares!

Hey Everyone!

This weeks edition of Tutorial Tuesday is looking at the humble, but wonderful Granny Square!
Granny Squares are a fantastic stash buster and can be used in a variety of creative ways. Not only do they look pretty, but they are also pretty hard-wearing. They are also very adaptable, and there are hundreds if not thousands of patterns out in the vast ocean that is the internet showcasing many variations of these cute little blighter's!

But, for this weeks tutorial, I am going to show you how to create the easiest of all of these, your basic granny square.

For this example I have used the same yarn throughout, however, it is very easy to change your colour each round, simply by cutting your working yarn and joining with a new colour! This pattern uses UK terminology.

You will need:
4mm crochet hook.
A small amount of dk weight yarn.

Lets Begin! :D
Make 3 chain, join with ss (slip stitch) to form a ring.

Round 1) 3 chain (to count as 1st treble or stitch), 2 treble, 2 chain. (Then 3 treble, 2 chain) three times in ring. Join with slip stitch in 3rd chain. (This will give you the four corners of the square).

Round 2) 3 chain, (2 treble, 2 chain, 3 treble) in corner space, 2 chain, * (3 treble, 2 chain, 3 treble) in next space,2 chain; repeat from * to end of round, join with a slip stitch in 3rd chain.

Round 3) 3 chain, (2 treble, 2 chain, 3 treble) in corner space * 2 chain, 3 treble in next space, 2 chain, (3 treble,2 chain, 3 treble) in corner space; repeat from * to last space, 2 chain, 3 treble in last space, join with slip stitch in 3rd chain.

Round 4) 3 chain, (2 treble, 2 chain, 3 treble)in corner space *2 chain, 3 treble in next space, 2 chain, 3 treble in next space, 2 chain, (3 treble, 2 chain, 3 treble) in corner space; repeat from * to last space, 2 chain, 3 treble in last space, join with slip stitch in the 3rd chain. Fasten off. Weave in you ends. Hey Presto! You have a granny square!

Now you know the basic granny square pattern the world is your oyster! You could create jackets and bags, cushions and dresses! Or you can just keep making them until you have enough to create an entire blanket!...

See you next time!

Congratulations, AutumnLeaf77!

Best of luck in the next few days as we all try to finish up our Advanced Studies projects!

House Cup Happenings!

Welcome to this edition of House Cup Happenings!

This episode shows off just some of the lovely projects which have been submitted so far in March!

Because some of the computer pixies got into my laptop, I wasn't able to add words to this video as I normally would, but everyone featured should have received an earburn in the great hall which I hope will make up for it! :D

Enjoy!

Felix Felicis Friday: March 2012 Edition

It's time for another round of Felix Felicis Friday!  Last Friday was crazy for me, so it got pushed back a week.

First, we need to recap last month's Felix Felicis.  I asked the following:

In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Ron eats chocolates given to Harry by Romilda Vane. These chocolates were laced with Amorentia, the most powerful love potion in the world. Ron quickly succumbs to feelings of deep affection for Romilda and must be taken to Professor Slughorn for a cure. If you had a vial of Amortentia, upon whom would you want to use it?

My favorite response just happened to be the first response! Knitticism13 said,

"Matthew Lewis certainly Neville'd up through the years...

Need I say more?"

This reminds me of a meme that went around recently:

Knitticism13, I'll PM you with instructions for how to claim your prize.

For March, I thought we'd honor an Irish lad.  Here is March's Felix Felicis question!

Seamus Finnigan, Harry’s dormmate, is the most notable Irish lad in the Harry Potter series. When meeting Harry, Seamus informs us of his heritage:

”I’m half and half. Me dad’s a Muggle; Mam’s a witch. Bit of a nasty shock for him when he found out.”

If you had fallen in love with a muggle, would you keep your witch/wizard nature a secret? How would you tell the person you love that you are a witch/wizard?

It's a tough decision to make!  Please include your Ravelry ID with your answer.

Best of luck to you all!
