Felix Felicis Friday

Good morning Hogwartians.  It is the last Friday of the month when we set down our studies and our OWLs that are at 49.99% say goodbye to June.

I always enjoy the common room chatter at the end of the midterm when everyone is frantically conjuring OWL on the half shell or throwing down their wand and saying, "Oooo look a Headmistress Challenge!"  Long range quidditch practices are taking shape and homework is flying out of the commonrooms into the classrooms.

The Felix Felicis question for June was, "You have joined a magical crafting swap. Your secret swap partner is Minerva McGonagall. The rules of the swap say you must use divination to come up with package contents which must include: her favorite candy and a knit or crocheted accessory. What would you send her?"

And the winner is ....Vertigo1414 who said, "I would get her a chocolate frog, since what woman doesn't love chocolate! As far as a knitted item I would make her a felted cat toy/pillow. Big enough to use as a couch pillow, but small enough to bat around in cat mode."

I really love the idea of being playful in your animagus form.  So my dear Gryffindor pal, pm me your address in Ravelry and I'll be sending you an adorable little turtle that functions as a tape measure.

And now, the Felix Felicis Question for July is as follows.  You've been employed in R&D at Weasley's Wizard Wheezies to create gag crafting notions.  Which notion would you use and what would it's joke element be?  Maybe stitch markers that inexplicably tighten as you work until you cannot get them off the needles?

You have until July 28 to leave a comment in this post with your answer.  And again, my legimency isn't what it used to be.  If you don't leave your rav name with your comment I may not be able to find you with your prize.

Have a great final few days of June and good luck with your OWLs.

Rockinsticks signing out.

Good morning Hogwartians and welcome to the end of May.  For you firsties out there, we here at the blog like to do a little end of the month celebration the last Friday where we give away a prize.

As I am a [somewhat] snarky Slytherin, I enjoy making people work for their prize in random and sometimes entertaining ways.  In this case I pose a question and give everyone a month to answer it.

The May Felix Felicis question was this, "If you could spin the fiber from one magical creature what would it be and what would you craft with the resulting yarn? "

The answers were wide ranging, but the winner is.......
                                                    GazeboGal
who said, "Demiguise hair, of course!   and... I'd make a nightie out of it..."

There is just something about a woman who apreciates an invisibility nightie that warrants a prize.  So my dear, pm me your address and I'll send you a lovely little shawl pin, for your invisibility nightie.

And now....the Felix Felicis Question for the month of June is as follows.

You have joined a magical crafting swap.  Your secret swap partner is Minerva McGonagall.  The rules of the swap say you must use divination to come up with package contents which must include: her favorite candy and a knit or crocheted accessory.  What would you send her?

You have until June 23rd to post your answer as a  comment in this thread.  And please remember - I failed divination, so if you don't include your RavID in your answer, I won't be able to find you if  you win.

Felix Felicis Friday

So this is it my fair and noble house cuppers, the last Friday of Winter Term 2011.  Our firsties are more seasoned and our seventh years more swarthy.  Okay, well it sounded good in my head.

Anyway, so this will be the last prize give away of the term, the last chance before we pack our trunks for the Hogwarts Express to celebrate the outstanding creativity and crafting that has happened the last three months.  The question I posed waaaaaay back in February was, "It is almost your 39th birthday and you decide it would be a good time to start making horcruxes for yourself. What object would you turn into a horcrux, why and where would you hide it?"

Shortly after I posed the question I thought, "Oh dear I've just made the public assumption that 500 plus people would be willing to kill to become immortal.  Nice work Rockinsticks - could you be any less sensitive?"  Well I'm happy to say that you all seemed to take it in the right spirit and there were a wide range of horcruxes being created - in the most non-violent of ways of course.  Coffee makers, books, yarn at the bottom of the stash, even a cake of violin rosin are all to be suspected.  But my favorite answer this month was from .....
Mariannewells
"I reckon I'd use a black box crash recorder. They're designed to be indestructible!"

Short, sweet and simple.  For your thoughtful advice to all of us who are still looking for the perfect object you win three of my horcruxes a lovely skein of sock yarn, a straight needle case and some stitch markers.  PM me your address in Ravelry and I'll send out your winnings.

Well everyone, thanks for an unforgettable winter term.  I'm glad we are moving into spring and looking forward to seeing all you NQFYs all shinny in your robes after the sorting at the end of April.

Felix Felicis Friday

Greetings house cuppers and congratulations on making it through another (or a first) month of classwork and quidditch.  As promised the last Friday of each month is now been declared Felix Felicis Friday when we celebrate being almost done and award a prize to one lucky commentator who answered the question of the month.
January's question was, "Which character from Harry Potter most resembles your yarn stash?"  There were many great answers some kind of sweet really.  And the winner is.....

Alethea
"I'm not sure I can defend this with logic, but my immediate thought was:  My yarn stash is most like Mad Eye Moody.  I'm actually really not sure I want to dig any further into that thought."

Congratulations Alethea you win a lovely skein of Fiber-Optica sock yarn in a glorious blue/purple/grey mix. May it be at home in your moody stash.  Please PM me your address in Ravelry and I'll send out my postal raven.

And the Felix Felicis Question of the Month for February is as follows.
You are invited to Severus Snape's birthday party and told that in order to get in the door you must craft one item for him.  What would you make him and why?

Leave your answer in this post's comments before February 24 to have a shot at the next prize awarded on February 25th.
