Hello everyone!
This is Angiejude, bringing you the latest in Advanced studies.
We managed to survive the first week of June and it seems like finally Gryffindor stepped up the pace and more people reached the 50% mark for their OWLs. Still early, still time for everyone to craft. It's anyone's game now.
One project that really caught our attention was straayerliz’s Charms 50% progress in which she turned in a beautiful blue lace panel top.
It's so pretty! And she looks so good in it!

Don’t forget you have until the 15th of June to make any changes to your original proposal.
There’s not a lot to say about OotP projects yet. People must be crafting like the wind! Remember, you can’t turn in OotP projects until the 8th of July.

Until next week!

Advanced Studies... ready, set, go!

Hello, fellow house-cuppers. This is Angiejude your Advanced Studies reporter, keeping an eye on the most amazing, ambitious projects for this term.

For those of you who are First years, NQFYs or really haven’t been paying attention to the Advanced studies part of the cup, let me start by saying that although the class points are the ones that are strictly required, the Advanced studies points have been known to give advantage to a house.
And even if you aren't that much into competition, those threads are full of amazing inspiration. I know I always drool at what people attempt and, for the most part, accomplish!

Let me tell you a bit about this week’s happenings in the Spring OWL Hall. Unless you were under a rock, you must have realized that the Hall was packed from May 1st and the proposals are still pouring in.

damiknitter, MINDYSUE, Frick and Spike are our strict examiners this term, assisted by catdragon, lanismom, softnshiny and Shadawyn. They will all have their work cut out for them, I’m sure. As of Friday night there were one hundred and eleven recorded proposals. And this is just week one.

As far as interesting projects go, there are lot of beautiful promises and a visual smorgasbord of yarn. But there are projects that stand out and we may very well have to keep an eye on them to see their development.

One of those projects is the one proposed by Slytherin’s QallieQ, who proposed a humongous Doctor Who afghan. It needs... please sit down... six thousand nine hundred and thirty yards! QallieQ, you must be off your rocker but we will all be rooting for you and keeping an eye on your progress!

Another project we should really keep an eye on is Ravenclaw’s otismurph’s proposed Astronomy OWL. She will design a jumper and the swatch for her colorwork is A-MA-ZING. That will be a beautiful sweater.

Our dear Headmistress, yarnvista proposed a HoM OWL herself, planning to spin her way into those coveted 100 points. Good luck!

Remember, you have until May 31st to propose an OWL, after that only changes to existing proposals will be taken.

As for the Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests (NEWTs), proposals were due on April 22nd and remember, you have until May 31st to make any modifications to them and to turn in your 50% for 50 points.

Badamy, DJMeurer, naturallyknitty and slmoses are your NEWT examiners, dividing the twenty two ongoing projects between themselves.

As for memorable proposals, we have our very lovely GazeboGal, on her third NEWT (faint) and this one is about Aristotelian Elements. Three beautiful shawls! We will check them out closely.

Gryffindor’s Vertigo1414 got a new Sonata wheel about a month ago and she is intending to spin her way into those 200 points. Her rovings look so amazing!

And what can I say about the before-mentioned naturallyknitty? Give that woman a couple of sheep and you will have an awesome sweater by July. Her proposed NEWT is wash, dye, card, spin and knit her 2 bags full of fleece. And no, people, this is not the first time she’s done that either.

Last but not least, let’s talk about The Order of the Phoenix (OotP). Proposals will be accepted starting TOMORROW, May 6th. We shall see very interesting things and we hope to have all the juice about them for next week. Your examiners are isisonearth, vox8, GazeboGal and TheWindWraith.

Don’t forget to check out this section every Saturday if you want to “ooh” and “aah” at some of the most beautiful, daring projects in this cup.  And if you have proposed an OWL, NEWT or OoTP, keep an eye out for these posts, your project may be the one featured.

Also, if you believe your project or that of a fellow house cupper deserves being featured, please suggest it in the comments and we'll go check it out!

Until next time!

Advanced Studies Update

Can you believe that there are only 11 more days in the term?  And only five days until the end of Phoenix missions!

A lot of OWLs and Phoenixes have flown in from all four houses.  What's really amazing is we already have a NEWT turned in!

Congratulations, AutumnLeaf77!

Best of luck in the next few days as we all try to finish up our Advanced Studies projects!

Advanced Studies Update

It's that time again - another Advanced Studies Update!

Just a few days ago marked the deadline for earning points for 75% on NEWTs and 50% on OWLs.

Congratulations to all those who made it to these milestones!  An especially grand congratulations to the NEWT students!  We've already seen hopesclan, mauri and Autumnleaf77 at 75%, but today we're adding a few more to their ranks of awesomeness!

First, SFCorgi, adding this gorgeous cabled sweater to her already amazing work.

NaturallyKnitty is next!

And MightyGoodYarn shows her mighty good work:

Cindiknits has also reached 75%

Here's Alexist's 75%!

Jajigirl has made some great progress

LNS!  With her huge afghan!

Greenheron has achieved 75% with flying colors!

And last, but certainly not least, EvilMichelle!

Congratulations to all our advanced studies students for reaching your milestones!

Advanced Studies Update

Unfortunately, there's not much to report right now.  Everyone is busy knitting/crocheting/weaving/spinning/dyeing away!

Perhaps today is a good time for a little reminder of how much time is left for each of the advanced studies options!

As of this moment (Monday, February 27th, 2012, 6:50pm EST), we have
33 days, 8 hours, and 9 minutes
left of the term.  This means we are

72.67% done with time allotted for NEWTs
63.36% done with time allotted for OWLs
54.75% done with time allotted for Phoenixes
(remember, Phoenixes must be turned in by March 24th!)

I know that my OWL is at, oh, 60%?  And my phoenix is at around 38% done, so that means I'm a bit behind!  Better get crafting!

Advanced Studies Update

We're over halfway through month two of the term (month three for NEWTlings!) and things are heating up!

Hopesclan has turned in her 75% on her NEWT!  This includes the finished Road to Golden and the body of Princess Buttercup

Mauri also turned in 75% with a Foliage hat, shipwreck shawl (in progress), and queen anne's lace shawl

Autumnleaf77 also made it to 75% on her avatar elements afghan

Finally, according to my count (which could be oh so wrong) we have 94 OWL students who have achieved 50%!

How are your advanced studies projects coming?  Anyone want to update us on their Phoenix?

Advanced Studies Update

There isn't too much to report this week.  All of our advanced studies students are busy crafting away on NEWTs, OWLs, and Phoenixes!

I can, however, let you in on how our other NEWTlings are doing!  We have had a few more reach 50%!

First, SFCorgi:

Isn't that cabling gorgeous? And the sweater - over 1,000 yards already on size 1 needles.  SFCorgi=Awesome.

Next, Jajigirl!

I can't take my eyes of the color gradation in that shawl!

And we have Alexist:

Just beautiful!  I'm not sure ho you survived all the bobbles ont hat sweater, but you made it!

Don't forget EvilMichelle:

We're so proud of you for sticking with it, EvilMichelle!

And last, but certainly not least, MightyGoodYarn!

What husband wouldn't be happy with that sweater - and size 14 feet!  My goodness!

Which means that almost all of our NEWTlings reached their goal of 50% last month!  Congratulations, NEWTlings!  You have done beautiful work!
