I just started my new job this week and I've been talking about Harry Potter a lot with the woman who is training me. I'm currently in the process of moving, so I thought I'd bring you the lovely shawl re-cap from Detention last month! First a lovely collage of the shawls:

Magical Movie Tuesday!

Woo! I might just get this in on time (at least before Tuesday ends for me). I was knitting away on my sweater tee I'm making myself this month and completely lost track of time, but never fear I am here with some great movies to get you thinking about this month's DADA!

DADA this month is all about Japan, the beach and vacation. Here are a couple movies to get you excited about each one:
Japan
Any anime film or series would be great here. I am only just starting to get into Manga, and I know the next step will be into anime, but I'm not there yet! I have always wanted to watch the anime version of Howel's Moving Castle since I loved the book. But any anime would do wonderfully!

Another place to look for Japanese influence, or a small look into Japan in the 1940's are some of the great classic WWII movies. I remember watching Tora! Tora! Tora! in high school thinking it was going to be totally lame (I mean come on, I could totally have learned about WWII from watching Pearl Harbor and gazing at Brad Pitt and Josh Hartnett) but I really loved it.

The Beach
There are tons of movies that involve the beach, so I've got three fun, animated, family friendly movies that are all about the animals that leave near the beach. What you ask? Well Rio, Surf's Up and Madagascar of course. I can't think of anything cuter than hanging out with some crazy talking animals on the beach!

Vacations!
Everyone loves vacation, or at least I think everyone does. Who doesn't like to get away from things for a little bit every once in a while? Stay-cations are also pretty awesome in my book, since that means lots of extra knitting time. There are also tons of movies with vacations as the center.
First off there are all the National Lampoon Vacation movies, my personal favorite being Christmas Vacation.

Another of my favorite vacations movies is RV. 1. Because I love Robin Williams. 2. Because this is totally what would happen if my family took a RV vacation.

That's all I've got time for today, but hopefully if you're still looking for some inspiration for DADA this month, one of these movies will be able to help. And if you've already got something planned, maybe this will help you pick a movie for movie night this week.

Terrific Tuesday!

Oh hey! What's going on? It's Tuesday again? *sigh*

But, today is a terrific Tuesday for two very specific reasons:

Reason 1:



Yep! I finished my Kink, blocked it, and sewed on a button! It's all ready to be gifted to a very special Grandma!

Reason 2:

I finished my Huron!!!! I never thought I'd be able to knit a sweater in less than a month (actually... I knit it in 10 days), especially given that my two previous efforts have taken somewhere around 3-5 months to finish! I need to wash it, and I'm hoping the hemp gets less scratchy, but I'm still in love.

Reason 3 (I was never good with lists anyway):
I'm home for an entire week! And then I have less than a month before I'm moving back home for an internship and I will never have to return to the University again!!! That makes me very very very happy.

Boo-yah Tuesday!

Boo-yah is the word of this post, as many things have been accomplished, both in the Cup and in the real world, since we last spoke.

First, I finished my cardigan:



as well as a skein of fingering to DK weight (depending how thick it got) yak, silk, wool blend from AVFKW's Essential Luxury Club:

This was originally destined to become an Abby, but after further deliberation (and the fact that some spots were too thick for the gauge of the pattern), I've decided instead to make it into Kink. More to come on that front.

Both the cardigan and spinning were turned into Detention.

I turned in a pocketed scarf to Herbology that I designed myself, and you can read about over here:


And right now I'm working on a mystery sock (only two clues released so far, and as you can see, I'm done with the first clue on both and the second clue on one) for Care of Magical Creatures:


As well as a sweater vest for Defense Against the Dark Arts:

As you can see, things have really been rolling along, so I give you a big BOO-YAH on this wonderful Tuesday!

Drive-by Tuesday

HI THERE!

I'm just stopping in for a bit to give you guys a little update on what I've been working on for the past week.

I managed to finish my chain mail socks for Charms:

I also conjured up a magical washcloth to apply the honey soap that wards off flesh-eating hags for my Potions class;

I also practiced more spinning, but this isn't for a class (unless you can think up a story for History of Magic's assignment...)


BUT! The most exciting part of my week was finishing off my OWL scarf pattern (Astronomy) and being marked 50% complete. I'll show you pictures in a minute, but first I need your help on two counts. One: I need test knitters, and who better to test knit than my fellow Cuppers? In all actuality, you could probably finish this scarf in a matter of a week or two, but I took longer because the shaping was a challenge. Hehe. If you want to test knit, you'll need approximately 220 yards of a worsted weight yarn; I used Cascade Venezia and managed to get in around 210 yards of worsted weight, but you would probably do well to have a little insurance. Two: I need a name for this scarf. If you can help on either of these counts, please please please let me know by commenting here or sending me (TheAlexKlein) a PM on Ravelry.
