Newbie Lace Knitter Part 2!

“Vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself And falls on the other side” (Just for you DawnTreader7! Name that Shakespeare!)

For this I have kept a small diary of my venture into lace! I hope you enjoy!

 I had a rather busy morning, but have now found a few hours to myself! Having bribed DBF with sweets and homemade brownies, he was happy to sit for a half hour being a skein holder whilst I wound up some of my lovely new lace into a ball!

 Ready to go! Almost fell at the first hurdle of ‘turn the work 90 degrees and pick up the 3 bumps along the garter stitch edge’. Took me far too long to figure out that by simply swapping needles I could get my working yarn to the right end!

 I have completed the garter stitch insert and have threaded through a lifeline. It’s chart time! :)

 Oooh! Had a mini disaster and lost a stitch somewhere so I ended up with only two border stitches. Created a new one, hopefully this works.

 Thank goodness for lifelines! I ripped back and realised I had been doing SSK wrongly! Carrying on, trying to keep calm!

 Bummer! I’ve gone wrong, this isn’t good. Gunna be a 10 row rip back at least!

 This is my third rip back today, I fear this is not going to happen tonight. I keep doing something wrong but I’m not sure what. I think I could possibly do with a stitch count per row on this pattern, because I have no idea how many stitches there are. Ending tonight on a rip back to row 15.

 Ok so new plan! I think I jumped in feet first into quicksand, and so I’m going to take a step back and try something a little simpler. I have just cast on for ‘In the Land of Oz’ shawl. Fingers crossed eh?

 I like this so far. The pattern is a two line repeat which means I can do it whilst watching tv.

 Or apparently not! Whoops! Had to rip back because my centre stitch line went all weird and wobbly!

 And we’re back on track!

 Almost there!

 Yes! Solid section is complete!

 Tomorrow I tackle the lace! I have my chart, my highlighter and a bit of yarn for a life line!

 Decided this is definitely going in for the Headmistress’ challenge. I’m thinking ‘Wicked’ and 'Harry Potter' equals awesome!

 And we have a row of lace! No mistakes as of yet!

More Next Week! :D

The Scottish play! Lol I love it, you're amazing :) Can the world buy such a jewel?

And looks so good! Go slowly and use LOTS of stitch markers :)
